This is Christmas Morning. We went to my parents in the morning and Jim's family for a late lunch. We were very spoiled by both families! My parents are taking everyone to Great Wolf Lodge, and Jim's family spoiled Daisy absolutely rotten. She got a My Pal Violet... such a cool toy! It's personalized just for Daisy.
We started food after our 4 month appointment, and she loves it! She loves eating. So far we've tried rice cereal and oatmeal. She likes both of them. Now we're ready for some fruits n veggies. This picture was taken after dinner, apparently she wore herself out. :)

She's sort of sleeping all night, usually, when she wakes up in the middle of the night it usually just takes a binky to get her back to sleep.

She'll be 5 months Thursday! I'm pretty sure I would cry more than you.

Love you so much, my growing baby girl!
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732615461405172355noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1478373439095650341.post-67824122015939233862011-10-07T19:35:00.001-05:002011-10-07T19:36:56.774-05:00Daisy is Seven Weeks, and back to schoolI survived my first week back at work. I'd forgotten how much extra stuff there is in a classroom to get done every day. I miss my Title 1!!! My class is actually really good, just very talkative. Plus the other 3rd grade teachers are super helpful. I only cried Monday on my way to work and just a bit before school got started. I blame that on a couple sweet teachers that came in and asked how I was and said they were praying for me. They were too nice.. the nerve!

Daisy was at my mom's Monday and Tuesday. Then she goes to a babysitter the rest of the week. The babysitter is great, but she has to go to a nearby school to pick up a couple kids. She apparently screamed all the way there and back all 3 days. I'm not sure what to do about that. I think the problem is that her natural schedule is to take a really good long afternoon nap, which is hard when you're getting carted here n there. Hopefully she'll get used to the new routine, or I'd be really tempted to start looking for other options. I'm just pretty sure we won't find anywhere as affordable. Bleck Wish I didn't have to even think about all that.

Daisy at 7 weeks
I think she's getting bigger. We're going to have to up her bottle, because 4 oz. doesn't seem to be as satisfying anymore. When you take the bottle away she wails. She's starting to smile more at people and make eye contact when she's really awake. If she's the least bit tired she zones out completely. She's also making all sorts of noises. I think she is starting to get more arm control. She folds her hands while having a bottle, or she'll hold your finger. I love that!! Anyway that's Daisy this week.
I hate how little I got to see her this week. We get home about 5 or 5:30, then hang out just a bit and she's in bed by 8 or 9. There's usually a nap in there as well (which is what she's doing now). I keep telling myself this is just the season we're in. It'll get better as she stays awake longer, then sleeps better at night. Plus there's always summer right? :)

Hope y'all had a great week, and enjoy your weekend. I know I will! I'm not going anywhere unless I have to, maybe church... we'll see.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732615461405172355noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1478373439095650341.post-83784909479497493162011-10-01T09:39:00.000-05:002011-10-01T09:40:21.408-05:00Daisy is Six WeeksDaisy and I went to my Dr. appointment yesterday. She cried so much a nurse came in and held her so she wouldn't scream anymore. I should have known better, she does not like being in her car seat if it's not moving. She usually likes car rides and stroller trips, as long as we're moving. Anyway, the appointment went fine after that. The girls in the office loved Daisy's personalized diaper bag and her little dog attached to a binky. The appointment messed up our morning so much she didn't take a nap until almost noon, then she slept for three hours! Needless to say we still don't have much of a routine or schedule yet. But Daisy's starting to work into a routine, when we don't mess it up by leaving home. :)
Aunt Flo, You suck!Dear Aunt Flo,
My lil munchkin isn't even 6 weeks old. Give me a break! I guess this is what I get for not breast feeding. I go to the doctor tomorrow for my 6 week check up, so I'll get on the pill. Last time I was on the pill you stopped being such a major B and settled down a bit. You'd better do that again this time!
Sincerely,
She has had a busy week developmentally.
Daisy is now making more eye contact and cooing. It took me a few coos to really decide that she was making those noises happily, not a noise made right before she starts to cry. Her neck is still as strong as ever, she can hold her head up for a longer stretch of time now. I'm working on getting through the Baby Whisperer book, and am trying to follow some of her suggestions.
She's in there well enough that logically I know it'd be hard for her to flip out, but still this mama worries.

We're off to Daddy's school today for our final baby shower. I think he's excited to show her off to everyone, and I'm pretty excited to open presents. :) heheAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732615461405172355noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1478373439095650341.post-4933985782068156792011-09-21T10:39:00.000-05:002011-09-29T13:30:08.743-05:00Over the river and through the woods...To grandma's house we go

Actually to be more specific it's my grandparents, Gaga and Papa, that we went to visit yesterday. My mom babysits my nephew every Monday and Tuesday, so we all loaded up and headed to Gaga and Papa's house. Yes, I still call them that as does my brother and my older cousin... well everyone really. Anyway, they are both in their upper 80's and have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. They don't get out a lot anymore other than a daily trip to the post office and an occasional run to the grocery store. Both Papa and Gaga were so glad to see the babies. My nephew is 13 months old and so funny right now, he makes all sorts of noises and poses for you. They were also really happy to see Daisy again; she's changed a lot since they saw her in the hospital.

After visiting with the grandparents, we went to one of my favorite burger places. Kuku's is in the town where I was born and went to elementary school. It was just about the only place I remember eating out at when I was small. Mom and I had cheeseburgers and my nephew threw most of his bites on the floor. He is hilarious when he eats fries, he already knows how to dip in ketchup! He'll dip the same fry then lick the ketchup off several times. When you make him eat the fry he felt like spitting it on the floor yesterday. He's so fickle changes his mind about what he wants and what he likes all the time. I hope Daisy isn't quite as unpredictable or messy. However I'm sure she will be.

And all that excitement wore us out. So today we're just praying for a peaceful day. heheAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732615461405172355noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1478373439095650341.post-84358733057559792152011-09-16T10:25:00.001-05:002011-09-16T10:28:03.486-05:00Daisy's Four weeks oldIt's been a pretty good week. Daisy found her mouth with her hands this week. She definitely likes the car seat better than swing and bouncer.
Of course he had been told to buy the clutch. There was pre-shopping with my mom and I, then he took her back to buy it. We try to pretend like there was a surprise there... ha.

I first saw one I liked at JC Penney while we were helping FB's mom shop for a dress to wear to FB's sister's wedding. Of course FB made a joke about me wanting a clutch... he asked if I'd prefer one for a Ford or Chevy. Hardy har har! By the time I got around to telling FB which clutch I wanted (a couple months later) the cute one from Penney's was gone. I finally found one at a local store.

The clutch wasn't a surprise, but this lil number was inside my clutch! Please! We need any and all advice on sleeping and schedules! Yes, I realize my baby doll's only three weeks old. However, I realize now I'm clueless! Tell me some good books to read, tips to try, anything. I'm pretty sure I can't do the cry it out thing. I'd definitely cry more than Daisy! She's 8lbs 7oz and 21 inches as of Wednesday. We saw the doctor and he says she's perfectly healthy. That's always nice to hear. Well she's waking up from this peaceful slumber I caught a pic of, so I'm off. Have a great weekend!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732615461405172355noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1478373439095650341.post-48358043879244104662011-09-08T17:45:00.000-05:002011-09-08T17:45:41.248-05:00Yay Internet!!We finally got internet!! No more mobile blogging for me! I must say that kind of drove me crazy. Now hopefully Daisy will start letting me lay her down during her naps so I can enjoy the internet. So far she'd prefer never to see her crib ever again. Luckily she likes her pack n play a little better. We have great nights like last night when she goes down well after each feeding... then there's nights like the night before which didn't go as well to say the least. Hopefully we'll figure her out soon and she'll get better at going down in both beds. Glad to be back to checking blogs on the laptop instead of the iphone. Maybe now I'll be better about commenting too.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732615461405172355noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1478373439095650341.post-17363950027818236172011-09-07T15:10:00.000-05:002011-09-17T18:15:13.086-05:00What I learned in one short week!People don't tell you what the first week of a baby's life is really like! Some moms may warn you that you'll be overwhelmed or how much your life will change, but nobody really tells you exactly what it's going to be like. Maybe it's that no one in their right mind believes moms when they try to warn you. I know I was shocked. So for all you future moms here's what my first week as a mom was like!

While we were in the hospital Daisy slept well, cried almost never, and was sort of getting used to breast feeding. However, each new shift change brought a new nurse with new ideas and tips on breast feeding. "Try a nipple guard" "No, that nipple guard will chafe your nipple" "Use a syringe to give a little formula while she's trying to breast feed" "Don't do the formula it's just coddling her and making her more lazy." Needless to say I was confused, upset, and had no idea what I should really do! When I wasn't breast feeding I was trying to get used to the idea of dealing with taking care of myself and my stitches. We won't get into all that, just take my advice... take the pain meds!

They shipped us home Sunday, I wasn't ready! Next time I plan to make sure to tell them I'm not ready. I was still waddling, bloated, and swollen. The morning we left, a pediatrician I'd never heard of before came in, woke us up, and announced Daisy's bilirubin was moderately high. I realize now how much harder it must really be for parents with babies in the NICU! Bilirubin being moderately high is really no big deal, but I thought the world might end then and there! We were told to spend a little extra time in indirect sunlight and we were told to check in w/ our regular pediatrician in a couple days.

Sunday afternoon we got home, had more trouble breast feeding, and cried AGAIN. I cried a lot that first week! I wasn't depressed or baby blues like they warn about. This was just tears streaming down my face sometimes for no apparent reason, sometimes I was just overwhelmed. Once I cried just because I realized how crazy in love I was with her and her daddy. I also cried every time I couldn't get her to stop crying. Yea... that little thing that acted perfectly in the hospital got home and woke up!

We went to the doctor on Tuesday and saw his nurse practitioner. The actual appointment was great, it was just the waiting and the cranky baby that made it hard. The nurse practitioner was great, and wasn't worried at all about her coloring due to the bilirubin. She was a little concerned with her weight though. Which meant we got to go back on Friday.

Tuesday night Daisy went from being a lazy sucker to giving up all together. After much drama, tears, trying all the different ideas from the hospital, and talking with the lactation consultant... we finally decided formula was the way to go. FB was so helpful and understanding during this whole process. We both wanted Daisy to breast feed, but it just was not going to happen!

After we switched to formula and got a little used to Daisy's cries, life started to get easier. FB could take a feeding and let me sleep. I was finally starting to feel more normal physically as well. We had a great weight check on Friday with the nurse practitioner. She was really sweet about us switching to formula and gave us a couple sample cans. So the first week finally wound down and ended on a high note.

I know this was a downer of a post and more serious than usual, but I think more women need to be really honest about the beginning of their babies' lives. I certainly am not this honest when people ask how I'm doing in real life. For some reason I felt like I hadn't done enough or that people would judge my decisions. Anyway I know I still have a lot to learn and Daisy and I will still have our good days and rough days. But we survived our first week, lived through the second one, and wouldn't change it for the world. So worth it to see her precious face all the time!
But I do promise there won't be gory details! :)
I've got to start the night before Daisy was born. Thursday was my first day with kids, so I was exhausted by the time I got home. I put my feet up and realized I was having contractions pretty regularly. They weren't painful but they were 5 minutes apart. We decided to go into town for dinner, then we'd at least be close. The contractions continued for 3 hours! We decided to go to the hospital and let them check just in case. I was there long enough for them to check and say I was still nowhere close. The nurse was polite but she basically said my doctor had said I was more dilated than I really was from my last appointment. So we went home, me in tears so ready to be done with this pregnancy! It was 11 by the time we got home.
I got up at 5:30 to get to my second day with the kiddos. The day went fine with just a couple contractions here and there. Until 1:15! I was talking about math routines when I felt a small gush. I got up and gave them a worksheet just in time for another gush! I stepped out into the hall(looking like I peed myself) to get another teacher. My principal came down with our nurse ( who just happened to have worked in the birthing center before) they checked on me while another teacher got her car. I still wasn't in any pain. I called FB to meet me at the ER, and we both got there at the same time.
We got checked in and they checked to see if it really was my water, and it was. We got a nurse who my mom loves, and had emailed to keep her eye out for us. She sent us out to walk the halls. There were already 4 babies in the nursery at that time. My mom had been at work so she was already at the hospital. My dad left work and came straight over.
Not much had happened by 4ish. I was having regular contractions, but not much pain. My doc decided I needed a little pitocin to move things along. That worked really well! I was in pain very shortly after that! Our birthplan was to try to stick with IV meds. I didn't want an epidural and to be stuck in the bed for hours. The IV made me loopy, but didn't really help with actual contraction pain. I labored like that for an hour or so. I got freaked out that it was going to hurt this bad for hours and hours, so I asked for an epidural. They knew it was too late for epidural, so I got a spinal block. I felt better immediately! I'm so glad I didn't try to tough it out or stick with a birth plan just because that's what I thought at the time.
Daisy arrived at 7:08 after less than an hour of pushing. It is really hard and weird trying to push when you can't feel what you're doing. My doc stitched me up while FB watched Daisy get cleaned up and measured. This was our first picture together.
I have to say 6 hours from start to finish wasn't bad at all! I'm not sure how long it would've taken without medicine, but I'm not too concerned about that now! Hopefully I didn't scar my poor class by disappearing with wet pants. :)
Wow that's a long post! Next up bilirubin scare and my lazy sucker. Have a great Monday!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732615461405172355noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1478373439095650341.post-48356640738906722662011-08-27T08:17:00.001-05:002011-08-27T08:17:50.205-05:00Let's try again

Daisy at one week oldAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732615461405172355noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1478373439095650341.post-60096990539602579742011-08-26T16:17:00.001-05:002011-09-16T10:29:36.439-05:00Daisy One Week Old

Does mama look tired or what? Now I'm ready for Daisy all the way down to my toes! I'm so ready for her to just get here! Mom took me to a great spa for a mani pedi, then she came with me to help finish getting the classroom ready. I think it's ready enough for a sub if I don't go back in. That's my new hope, I'm paranoid about going into labor at school. Well that's all I've got today, hope everyone's having a great week.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732615461405172355noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1478373439095650341.post-48517424734812854912011-08-05T06:53:00.001-05:002011-09-17T18:20:16.626-05:00Early Morning Ramblings

IMG_0000093.jpg
--------------------------------------------------
I woke up at 5:15 this morning to tinkle, laid in bed for about 30 minutes. I couldn't get back to sleep, so now I'm sitting in my new favorite place! I'm in love with our new recliner in our new nursery with all our new baby stuff. No we won't be leaving the pack-n-play in the middle of the room. It will be in our room, so Daisy will be close for the first couple months.
Our shower was Saturday, and it was great! We didn't have many non-family guests there, but it was still fun. We also got more hand me down clothes. I gotta tell ya that has been such a huge blessing! A friend has a nine month old who has outgrown everything under 12 months, so she gave it all to me! Daisy has a MUCH larger wardrobe than FB and I combined! She also gave us her diaper cake, because her little one was in NICU so long mama never got to break into that size diaper. We also got a diaper cake from our shower. We planned on cloth diapering immediately, but we are going to wait until we run low on freebies to decide what to do next.
We also went to the doctor yesterday. She said she didn't think we'd make it to our due date. She thinks we'll have baby in the next week or two! FB is hoping for Thursday, and I'm just hoping for SOON! I would like her to wait for next week, so I feel a little more prepared to leave my classroom to the sub. I'm pretty sure I won't be at the back to school activities.
Well another super long post! If you're reading this, thanks for hanging in there! Hopefully we'll have a big exciting post soon! Today I am 35 weeks and 5 days. I've started the whole not sleeping well, feeling huge, having a hard time getting in/out of the car phase. I've also started the gagging thing again like during the first trimester. I almost didn't get to finish brushing my teeth this morning. It's also become very clear that I shouldn't fill a plate with the amount of food I'd like to eat (like a normal dinner portion), because I can't eat that much at once anymore. I'm glad baby is growing and all, but pushing my stomach into my lungs... I could live without that part. One good thing about this stage is that I've become addicted to hydration, I have to have something to drink all the time. On the other hand, it's not so fun when you're out and about and don't have a drink in hand. I thought I might die in line yesterday for Wendy's, I was so thirsty! That's when the gagging really kicks in. I've got to say gagging is such a weird preggo symptom, I don't think it's all that common either.

My BabyBump iPhone app says I have a honeydew melon sized baby. Approximately 18 inches and 5.25 lb. I've never seen an 18 in. honeydew, but I guess that sort of gives you an idea of what I've got rolling around in me.

I know this is a whiny post, but I do have to say I've felt really good for the majority of my pregnancy. After the morning sickness subsided I didn't have many symptoms at all until the last week or so. During the first phase I kept telling FB we'd be considering adoption from here on out, but I'm pretty sure if it's in God's plan I'll be in this same boat in a couple years. And probably another time or two after that. 4 kids... I know crazy right? Maybe I am, we'll just have to wait and see what the future holds.

In non-childbearing news... We went to my 10 year high school class reunion over the weekend. FB was a good sport and let me show him off, even though he was pretty much done after dinner... I guess I'd be bored if I didn't know anyone too. It was so interesting to see what happens in 10 years! Most everyone is married with a career and some have kids. I thought it was funny that FB and I were probably the most recently married and preggo too. There were several couples who've been married 5 or 6 years and still no kids on the horizon. I'm not saying that either way is the right way, it was just interesting to me. We've got 2 that still live at home, which just strikes me as crazy. I'm not talking about moved back home for a brief time while finishing school or looking for a new job or whatever. I'm talking never. moved. out!! My parents would have thrown me to the curb by now... I'm almost certain! We also have a bunch of super smarties in our class, an attorney, several computer programmers, psychologist, entrepreneur, nurse, medical researcher, and of course teacher. :) We also have an ice cream cone aficionado... Does it make me a job snob that I think by now you should have moved on from your high school job?? I mean really, you want to scoop ice cream forever?? I bet you could guess the ice cream aficionado is one that still lives at home. It's crazy how in 10 years things can completely change.... or nothing changes at all... I'm interested to see where everyone is at 15 or 20 years! Anyway, it was a fun evening and I'm glad we went. I had waffled back and forth about whether to go at all.

Have a great week! I'm getting ready for garage sale and baby shower this weekend, wish me luck!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732615461405172355noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1478373439095650341.post-6960291619468045582011-07-20T09:18:00.000-05:002011-07-20T09:18:57.360-05:00I'm on the Internet!!
Well, I feel totally out of the loop!

We were also very blessed to receive two big boxes full of clothes! A parent at my school gave them to us, she was so thoughtful and sweet. She wouldn't let me pay her for any of it. Now I've got a huge wardrobe of 0-3 month stuff that goes from hot to cold weather. This is just one washer load of onesies and lightweight stuff to get her started. I haven't washed any of the winter stuff yet.

Our baby shower is next weekend, so I'm looking forward to that! Hopefully after that we'll be completely ready for Daisy. If not, I'll be doing a little shopping to get us ready. :) I've tried really hard not to buy stuff until then, but it's so hard. Everything baby is so tempting to just pick up here and there.

This came in the mail yesterday! Now Daisy will be ready to hit the road, or at least her stuff will be. I'm not sure how soon this mama will be ready to hit the road w/ her, but we'll be ready when that day comes. I found this on etsy.com. We both have decided it's entirely too hot (100's) to do any actual work around the house. I think the weatherman said it hasn't been this hot for this long since 1954. Guess that just adds to the future baby stories I get to tell my lil' girl. ...When you were born it was the hottest summer on record... I always loved when Mom would tell my baby story. Anybody else get to hear their story, every single birthday?
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05732615461405172355noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1478373439095650341.post-25839263966657592062011-06-29T11:37:00.000-05:002011-09-17T18:16:27.292-05:00Nursery AfterFarmboy did basically everything by himself. He had some help from my dad sanding the walls to get rid of the awful popcorn texture and to help put up the crown molding. Other than that he's been a very busy guy... all alone.

<img border="0" height="320" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAXXMU9ctrEEYyENqPlFa3k29F-o3mEzBnxH4ItseFkWg5JtYKRiFZdQbvPbl1IsyQv7XQjJKwautG93ArPLwD8DNRvbga8UeT76DYTiZ1hBn24GtfAGESh3Wf83J_1pH04hKykkWN2Ghr/s320/nursery6.jpg" width="240" />
He sanded, caulked, and fixed cracks, then he painted the ceiling. We did invest in a cool sprayer doohicky, so that helped! He painted the top tan and the bottom brown. Followed by painting and putting up baseboards, chair rail, and crown molding.
White walls with weird popcorn texture (but only some and only in some places), plus the super tiny border at the top. Did anyone know they made borders that small?? I certainly did not. We used this room for storing junk. It was set up to look like it maybe could be a spare bedroom with a bed and tv, but was never used that way.

Throw in a few wedding gifts that went unused, and a few odds and ends that we couldn't find a proper home for... now you've got an idea of what this room held.

Now here's a little bit of what condition the room was in! Our house is from the 40's, so it's in need of some touch ups in most rooms. FB has done quite a bit, but there's still plenty left to be done.
